Pastoral Care chaplains offer caring and committed support to patients, their families and our staff in times of illness, conflict and tragedy. The chaplains at Olean General Hospital are an important part of the integrated healthcare team and are trained to meet the spiritual, emotional and psychosocial needs of those we serve. You do not have to belong to a faith congregation or even consider yourself religious to request the support of a chaplain. Care is provided to all patients upon request, and our chaplains are ready to assist with your spiritual, cultural, ethnic and individual needs.

Services provided:

  • Visitation and pastoral support for patients and families
  • Resources such as bibles, devotionals and other spiritual literature
  • Communion for patients at the bedside
  • Assistance at family conferences and in decision making
  • Information and assistance with advance directives and health care proxy
  • Grief support

To request a chaplain

A chaplain is in the hospital Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chaplains are also available 24 hours a day to respond to the urgent spiritual and emotional needs of patients and families.

To request a visit, call the hospital at (716) 373-2600 and the switchboard attendant will page a chaplain for you.

Locations

The Pastoral Care office is located on the second floor in the west wing of the hospital.

A meditation room is located on the second floor across from the patient and visitor atrium. This space is designed to provide patients and family members a quiet place for reflection and prayer.

Community Clergy

Our chaplains act as liaisons between patients and their own clergy. With your permission, pastoral care staff will notify your clergy of your admission and request a visit.

You can also make a difference

Lay volunteers also minister to patients and families under the direct supervision of the staff chaplains. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call the pastoral care office at (716) 375-6970.
