OGH hosts critical care nurse training

Posted on: 02/18/2019

Kristen Luttenberger, MSN, RN, CCRN-CMC, PCCN, APN-C, leads a critical care nursing certification training at Olean General Hospital Feb. 4-5.

The course prepared 27 RNs who attended from OGH, Bradford Regional Medical Center and the region to sit for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ critical care certification exam. Critical care nurses are trained to treat seriously ill or injured patients, often in an intensive care unit. AACN certification validates specialized knowledge in critical care nursing that reflects national standards and a commitment to patient safety.

“We were most pleased to be able to offer this extraordinary course to our staff and the entire Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania region. The certification is an extremely important third party validation of the skill, knowledge, and competence of our nursing staff. It also promotes professionalism and boosts confidence of our bedside staff who care for our sickest patients,” said Vi-Anne Antrum, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CENP, FACHE, vice president, patient care services and chief nursing officer, OGH.

Nurses wanting to take this course are usually hindered by cost and travel time as courses are expensive and not typically held in this region. Funding for the course was provided by the OGH Foundation through the generosity of the Catherine Cridler Endowment Fund.
