Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Olean General Hospital is currently completing construction on a brand new building attached to the hospital to

house our new Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI. An MRI is a non-invasive test that uses radiofrequency waves and a strong magnetic field rather than x-rays to provide remarkably clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.

The technique has proven very valuable for the diagnosis of a broad range of pathologic conditions in all parts of the body including cancer, heart and vascular disease, stroke, and joint and musculoskeletal disorders.

MRI requires specialized equipment and expertise and allows evaluation of some body structures that may not be as visible with other imaging methods.

And the stronger the magnet, the clearer the pictures. Olean General Hospital's new Espree MRI from Siemens will contain the most powerful magnet anywhere in the area. Images captured via this technology are simply more detailed and contain more data than pictures obtained on any other machine.

Typically a concern for many patients requiring an MRI is claustraphobia. Generally, the most powerful MRIs had narrow tubes that made some patients feel "trapped" or closed in. Open MRIs tended to have wider bores and gave patients more room, but the trade-off was poorer quality. Olean General Hospital's new Espree MRI offers the best of both worlds, with a short, wide bore to keep patients from feeling closed in, while providing the highest quality diagnostic images available.

When it comes to your health and the health of your family, don't leave your diagnostic imaging to anything less. Talk to your doctor today about getting your MRI on Olean General Hospital's new Espree MRI.
