Volunteer Services Opportunities

There are numerous volunteer opportunities at Olean General Hospital for people of all ages and abilities. From high school students looking to fulfill community service hours to retirees looking for new ways to help their neighbors, Olean General has volunteer options. For more information about any of the volunteer opportunities listed below, please contact our Volunteer Services Department at (716) 375-6119.

VANGOGH drivers and assistants

• There are two shifts Monday thru Friday 8:30 am to 12:45 pm OR 12:45 pm to 4:00 pm
• Pick up patients who have no means of transportation and bring them to the hospital for appointments
• Take patients back home from the hospital after appointments

Patient Escort Service

• Assist patients to designated area
• Answering and/or obtaining answers from questions asked.

Patient Contact Areas

(Requires physical completed in Occupational/Wellness Department of the hospital)

Art Cart Program

Offer patients the opportunity to pick a picture for their room.

Cheer wagon

Deliver Gift Shop items to visitors and patients.

Compassionate Companion

Volunteers and employees will extend caring concern to the patients and community of Olean General Hospital by providing a reassuring presence at the bedside of a dying patient who would otherwise be alone.

Eucharistic Ministers

Visit patients daily

Emergency Room

Assist the emergency room staff where directed

Nutrition

Deliver patient trays when asked to designated nursing station.

Library Cart

Deliver books, magazines to patient rooms and lobby areas

Mail Delivery

Deliver mail to patients

Pastoral Care Visitors

Visit all new patients

Runners

Work with various departments within the hospital by either delivering items or picking up items to be taken to another department.

2nd and 3rd floor Patient areas

• Read to patients

Charts

• Correlate new patient charts and admission packets for: Nursing Floors; Outpatient Surgery; Ambulatory Surgery; Cardiac Rehabilitation information; Clinic charts
• Correlate patient education information packets for different departments: Cardiac Rehabilitation and Diabetic packets
• Correlate new employee information packets

Gift Shop

Selling gifts, candy, papers, flowers, etc

Hostess

Greet family members of surgical patients in the waiting room.

Human Resource

• Filing
• Copying
• Correlating new employee information packets
• Laboratory
• Clerical
• Copying

Mail Sort

Sort all postal mail and place in departments bins for pick-up

Marketing and Community Relations

• Cutting out newspaper articles regarding OGH and placing in the hospital scrapbook
• Computer work

Phone Committee

Telephone workers during fundraisers
