Ann Cheladyn Boser Cardiac Rehabilitation Center

At Olean General Hospital, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is a comprehensive and individualized program of exercise and education focused on assisting patients in completing their recovery from a cardiac event so that they can lead a healthier and safer lifestyle. To enter the program patients must have a doctor’s referral and a stress test.

The program, certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, is intended for people who have experienced:

  • heart attack
  • coronary bypass surgery
  • angina
  • angioplasty
  • congestive heart failure
  • heart valve surgery
  • stents

A medical director and registered nurses, all of whom have certification in basic and advanced cardiac life support, staff the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, our Cardiac Rehabilitation program consists of two parts:

  • Exercise training – to assist patients in learning how to exercise safely, based on individual ability and to improve stamina.
  • Education – to help patients understand their heart condition and to teach about lifestyle adjustments to reduce future heart problems.

Phase II Program

This is for patients who have recently experienced a cardiac event. It is 8-12 weeks long with 3 weekly one and a half hour sessions. A registered nurse monitors your cardiovascular response during your warm up exercise, cardiovascular (aerobic) exercise and cool down exercise sessions. During the entire session patients have a heart monitor applied to their chest area to continuously monitor heart rate and rhythm.
