Behavioral Health

The Behavioral Health Unit at Olean General Hospital offers a multi-faceted approach to providing inpatient mental health treatment for patients 18 years and older.

Therapy

Therapy includes:

individual and group counseling family meetings medication evaluation and adjustments daily psychiatrist visits

electroconvulsive therapy crisis intervention disease education

Treatments

Treatment begins with an evaluation of behavioral health needs with a professionally trained and certified staff of nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals. 

Treatment is provided through a variety of modalities that include:

24-hour nursing care Medication management and patient education Group therapy Individual therapy Family therapy Coping skills Spiritual group involvement/pastoral care

Activity therapy Patient and family education Relaxation techniques Physical and medical examination Electroconvulsive therapy Smoking cessation Comprehensive Discharge Planning Services

Our Team

The highly trained and professional staff approach the various aspects of medical and behavioral health from a multidisciplinary perspective for all treatment services and incorporates “best practices” as a guide in assessing, treating and caring for our patients.  It’s an approach that has a strong quality perspective and provides a focus on helping patients return to their normal activities with dignity, a positive attitude and an improved self-image.  Family meetings play an important role and help to ensure a smooth transition upon discharge.
