Olean General Hospital (OGH) today announced that the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center—a premiere affiliate site of Roswell Park Cancer Institute—has earned a three-year seal of accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for excellence in quality and patient safety.
“As a premiere affiliate site of Roswell Park Cancer Institute, the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center provides best-in-class cancer care right here in our community,” said Timothy J. Finan, president and CEO of Upper Allegheny Health System and member hospitals Bradford Regional Medical Center and Olean General Hospital. “We are pleased that the American College of Radiology has recognized our staff members for their dedication and the high standard of care they provide daily to our patients.”
In earning this accreditation, the Milliman Radiation Medicine Center met the ACR’s specific practice guidelines and technical standards, and underwent an evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists. During the assessment, ACR representatives evaluated patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists. Its programs focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
“This seal of accreditation is a significant achievement for the Radiation Medicine Program at Olean General Hospital,” said Ronald S. Mornelli, COO of Olean General Hospital. “Our hospital has worked diligently to ensure that OGH provides the best possible care for cancer patients without having to leave the area.”
The Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center provides radiation therapy to patients suffering from various forms of cancer. The center, under the direction of Gregory B. Hare, M.D., is equipped with a Varian Linear Accelerator, which allows for the practice of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), an advanced mode of high-precision radiotherapy utilizing computer-controlled linear accelerators to deliver precise radiation doses to a malignant tumor or specific areas within a tumor.
