The Olean General Hospital Auxiliary has been recognized by the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) for committing significant time and effort to serving as advocates for Olean General Hospital and the community during the past year. In order to qualify, auxiliaries must meet specific criteria, such as participation in HANYS’ legislative letter-writing campaigns and community outreach activities.
Founded in 1957, the Olean General Hospital Auxiliary has been an ambassador of goodwill to patients and visitors for over 50 years. Over 99 Auxilians, support the OGH Auxiliary led by Joyce Moser, president. “Olean General Hospital’s Auxilians deserve to be honored for their many contributions and hours of service at the hospital and throughout the community.” said Suzanne Gaughn, manager of volunteer services at OGH. The auxiliary was one of 47 hospitals recognized statewide.
In 2011, the Auxiliary supported the hospital’s mission and goals by volunteering over 51,000 hours through the following events and services: The Annual Strawberry Festival and Health Fair Fundraiser, VanGogh patient transportation service, the Patient Satisfaction Team, the Compassionate Companion Program, the Pastoral Care Visitors and Eucharistic Ministers, Art Cart, holiday gifts to patients, a sewing and knitting committee that provides handmade bears, knitted baby hats and lap blankets for infants and patients, the W.H.A.L.E. (we have a little emergency) program for new mothers and patient outreach, as well as managing the hospital’s gift shop and hostess program.
