OGH Auxiliary Recognized by the Healthcare Association of New York State
Posted on: 10/25/2010
Each year, the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) recognizes auxiliaries that demonstrate a commitment to participating in advocacy activities on behalf of their hospitals, their communities, and the state’s health care system. HANYS recently announced that Olean General Hospital’s (OGH) Auxiliary is being commended for their advocacy activities during 2009.
“Olean General Hospital’s Auxilians deserve to be honored for their many contributions and hours of service at the Hospital,” said Suzanne Gaughn, manager of Volunteer Services at OGH.
Over 97 Auxilians, support the OGH Auxiliary led by Raye Green, president of the Auxiliary. The Auxiliary has been an Ambassador of Goodwill to patients and visitors at OGH since 1957.
Last year, the Auxiliary supported the Hospital’s mission and goals by conducting the following events and services: The Annual Strawberry Festival and Health Fair Fundraiser, VanGogh patient transportation service, the compassionate companion program, the art cart, holiday gifts to patients, a sewing and knitting committee that provides handmade bears, knitted baby hats and lap blankets, the W.H.A.L.E. (we have a little emergency) program for new mothers and patient outreach, managing the Hospital’s gift shop and the hostess program.
The OGH Auxiliary was host to the 2010 Western New York / Rochester / HANY’S Regional Auxiliary Meeting with 51 Auxilians in attendance for an educational session, a roundtable discussion and networking on best practices. Additionally, the Auxiliary has a letter writing committee that contacts other area auxiliary and volunteers when needed in support of State Healthcare Budget concerns and HANY’S Advocacy needs.
By volunteering over 49,000 hours at several Hospital departments and providing fundraisers, the OGH Auxiliary has contributed to projects such as the recent renovation of the OB/GYN Unit; the purchase and installation of an awning for the Gundlah Dental, Dialysis Unit and Wound Care Center to protect patients from the weather elements.
