Louis Magnano Receives OGH 2009 Award

The Olean General Hospital and Olean General Hospital Foundation held a Board Appreciation event on March 25, 2009 to laud the efforts of their community volunteers and supporters. Louis A. Magnano, president and CEO of Park Center Development, Inc, was selected as the recipient of the annual OGH Distinguished Service Award. The award is designed to honor someone who has provided exceptional and extraordinary service as well as leadership to the hospital.
“Mr. Magnano’s pride and affection for his birthplace and hometown is second to none,” said Timothy J. Finan, president and CEO of Olean General Hospital. “Olean General Hospital respectfully honors him with the Distinguished Service Award for his spectacular vision, progressive development projects and generosity that will impact many lives in our community for years to come.”
Mr. Magnano is a past recipient of the LOUIE Award (Love of Olean United in Enterprise), as well as a number of business and civic awards from the United Way, Catholic Charities, Olean YMCA, St. Bonaventure University, Jamestown Community College and many local organizations. His community support is legendary. He is a well know philanthropist in the Olean area; his donations include a Leadership gift to Olean General Hospital for the heliport building named the Louis A. Magnano Olean General Hospital Mercy Flight Center which houses the Mercy Flight helicopter and crew. Olean General Hospital also dedicated the new emergency room to Louie and his wife, Patricia, in recognition of an additional Leadership gift. In addition, Louie chaired the OGH Vision 2000 Campaign. He has donated funds to repair and maintain the City of Olean Ice Skating Rink, which was scheduled to close without private assistance. His generosity also made possible the new center scoreboard in St. Bonaventure University’s Reilly Center Arena and St. Bonaventure University awarded Mr. Magnano with an honorary doctorate degree.
Karen Fohl, vice president of Institutional Advancement, said, “Louie is a self-made man who has gained almost celebrity status in our community – for he is known by all and is kind to all. His sacrificial giving and service has left an extraordinary imprint on Olean.”
An additional award was presented to Brent Driscoll, in honor of his many years of service as Chairman of the Foundation Board of Directors. Although he will remain a Foundation Board member, he recently stepped down from his position as Chairman after accepting a position on the Hospital Board of Directors.
Dennis Pezzimenti was honored as the new Foundation Board Chair. He is the owner of DBP Realty in Olean and the Vice President of Cattaraugus County Association of Realtors. In addition to coaching youth basketball, baseball and softball for various Olean leagues, Mr. Pezzimenti is the Co-Chairman of St. John's Festa Italiana and a Eucharist minister at St. John's Church.
Louis (Ledgie) DeRose also joined the Foundation Board. Mr. DeRose is vice president of Mazza Mechanical Services Inc. in Olean. An Olean native and graduate of Archbishop Walsh High School, he received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Niagara University.
In addition to the Olean General Hospital Foundation board, he is Chairman of the Rehabilitation Foundation, of which he has been a member since 1998. He has also been on the board at Bartlett Country Club since 2006.
